St. Joseph Medical Center Launches Women of Wellness Program Kickoff Event Celebrates “Real Women, Real Life”

Keynote Dale Smith Thomas to motivate women on choosing success at Oct. 15 event

HOUSTON (August 21, 2015) – St. Joseph Medical Center announces its new Women of Wellness (WOW) program, a health and social program to empower women as healthcare consumers by providing educational information and hosting fun, inspiring events that celebrate women’s role in their own wellness.

WOW launches on Oct. 15 with a health fair and dinner program at the Hyatt Regency Houston featuring a keynote address by Dale Smith Thomas, nationally recognized motivational speaker and author, titled Real Women, Real Life – Keys to Becoming Your Personal Best.” Thomas is president and founder of Winners by Choice, Inc. and will deliver an empowering, enlightening and entertaining presentation about how women can choose success in all areas of life. In addition, the event will offer free health screenings and a wide variety of partner booths featuring products and services of interest to women.

Dr. Elizabeth Bonefas, chief of staff at St. Joseph Medical Center and a board-certified surgeon specializing in breast diseases, said women have long been caregivers and not as vigilant about their own health issues.

“We encourage women to take a more active role in managing their own health with preventative programs, awareness and behaviors that lead to longer, healthier lives. Our new Women of Wellness program brings together the resources of St. Joseph to help women manage their healthcare at every stage of their life,” said Dr. Bonefas.

Membership in WOW is free and open to all women. Benefits include attending seminars, physician presentations, educational programs, health expos, a monthly e-newsletter, partner discounts and invitations to special events. Among women’s healthcare topics to be addressed are heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, menopause, nutrition, osteoporosis, stress management, partner and life balance issues.

The kickoff event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15 with a health fair and expo from 4 – 6 p.m. and dinner and keynote from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency downtown, 1200 Louisiana Street. Garage or valet parking is free to attendees.
