SJMC to Host 3rd Annual “Go Red for Women” Luncheon Feb. 5

Relationship expert Julie Nise delivers straightforward steps to reducing stress; Cardiologist Dr. Ethan Podet provides heart health tips

St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) will celebrate the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day on Friday, Feb. 5 with its 3rd Annual “Go Red for Women” health fair, partner expo and luncheon as part of its Women of Wellness (WOW) Program. WOW is a health and social program to empower women as healthcare consumers by providing educational information and hosting fun, inspiring events that celebrate women’s role in their own wellness.

Titled “Relax Your Way to a Healthy Heart,” the luncheon features keynote speaker Julie Nise, a nationally recognized Houston-area marriage and family therapist. Nise holds an M.A. in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage, family and child counseling and is a licensed professional counselor. She is

author of three books on relationship-building, has appeared on The Dr. Phil Show six times and is frequently quoted on relationship issues by national news organizations.

A self-described no-nonsense relationship trainer, Nise will share her process for creating happiness and reducing stress. “Problems within our various relationships brings stress to our lives. Alleviating stress can improve our health. Results don’t come from analyzing the past…real results come from being trained on making changes, learning and having fun. Get ready to change!” said Nise.

Additionally, board-certified Cardiologist Ethan J. Podet will provide information and insights on the latest heart health care. Dr. Podet specializes in cardiovascular disease and has more than 34 years of experience.

“There are a several misconceptions about heart disease in women,” said Dr. Podet. “Most women do not know that heart disease causes one in three deaths in women each year and the warning signs for women are different than those for men. Women need to know the facts and what they can do to lessen their risks for heart disease and stroke. Join us and learn more.”

Attendees are encouraged to wear red to support National Wear Red Day, a national public awareness day to bring attention to the leading killers of women – heart disease and stroke.

Tickets for the luncheon cost $10 and proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association. The event takes place at the SJMC George W. Strake Building, 9th floor auditorium at 1401 St. Joseph Parkway. Free valet parking is available at the St. Joseph Pavilion or attendees can self-park in the West Garage located across from the Pavilion.
