Patrick W. Wills, M.D. Named Chief of Staff of St. Joseph Medical Center

St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) is proud to announce the appointment of Patrick W. Wills, M.D. as Medical Chief of Staff. Dr. Wills serves as Chairman of the Medical Executive Committee and as the medical staff liaison to St. Joseph’s administrative staff and the governing board.

“Dr. Wills’ commitment to St. Joseph and his dedication to delivering expert care to the Houston community make him an excellent representative of our medical staff,” said Mark Bernard, CEO of SJMC. “He has earned the respect and appreciation of all who have worked with him. Dr. Wills has 38 years of experience and we appreciate his leadership in this important role.”

Dr. Wills has been affiliated with SJMC since 1978 when he completed his residency at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and rotated at SJMC as part of his training. “I had such a positive experience and my impression of the hospital was so strong back then, I knew I wanted to stay involved with St. Joseph.”

Dr. Wills is most proud of the staff dedication at SJMC that leads to excellent patient care. He calls the hospital a “melting pot” because its patient and employee populations represent the diversity of the city.

“We serve Houstonians from all areas of the city, even as far as Galveston,” said Dr. Wills. “There are generations of families who have selected St. Joseph as their hospital of choice, including my own family.”

Dr. Wills is a native Houstonian and proudly boasts of St. Joseph as Houston’s oldest hospital. He is just as positive about the hospital’s investments in advanced medical equipment and new physician partnerships in the community.

Throughout the years, Dr. Wills has served in many leadership positions at SJMC including Chairman of the Department of Medicine, Medical Director of the hospital’s skilled nursing faculty, Chairman of its credential committee, as well as chairing several other committees.

Dr. Wills graduated from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine with his medical degree in 1975, and holds a Masters Degree in Education from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He specializes in internal medicine at the Internal Medicine & Wellness Group in Houston. He also is Founder and Chair of the Board of Central Houston Independent Physicians Association, a managed care organization serving 6,500 patients, and is a Clinical Instructor of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
